KAREN SMITH

Managing Director, Tuesdays Child

Karen Smith is the managing director of Tuesday's Child Television, an indie company she launched in 2012. 

Specialising in entertainment and popular factual programming, they have devised and produced series for UK and international  broadcasters including the International Format Awards Best Studio Gameshow of 2016, You’re Back in the Room for ITV1 (now produced in ten other major territories), plus RTS-nominated Superstar Dogs (C4);  two series of gameshow format For What It’s Worth for (BBC1) (also adapted in Germany) and Saturday night entertainment format Pitch Battle (BBC1). Tuesday’s Child are currently in production on Lego Masters Season 2 for C4;  Man vs Robot an arena-scale gameshow pilot for Fox US and Play Listers a music quiz show pilot for BBC1 Saturday nights.

Karen’s network television career started at Granada TV’s This Morning as a Day Producer before becoming Deputy Editor and then Editor, a stint as a series producer at Endemol followed, launching Comic Relief Does Fame Academy (BBC1) and The Games (C4) and in October 2004 she joined BBC Entertainment where she was the co-devisor and launch Executive Producer of the multi-award winning Strictly Come Dancing.

She led the first five series in the UK and ultimately became Creative Director of BBC Entertainment overseeing all format and factual entertainment shows. In January 2009 Karen joined Shine TV, initially as Director of Programmes and shortly afterwards was made Joint MD.

Under her creative leadership Shine TV grew to be one of the UK’s largest indies with shows such as MasterChef; Got To DanceGladiatorsThe Biggest Loser and The Magicians
