THE WORK: DOCUMENTARY BEHIND BARS

It's a must see - the documentary The Work by Jairus McLeary. With 5-star international reviews and many festival awards, it will be great to get Jairus on stage - followed by a screening of the movie.

Set inside a single room in Folsom Prison, three men from the outside participate in a four-day group therapy retreat with level-four convicts. Over the four days, each man in the room takes his turn at delving deep into his past.

Documentarist Jairus McLeary guests our festival to talk about his amazing documentary "The Work" - how he worked with the inmates and got access.

"There are some documentary films that leaves an indelible imprint in you. When I first saw The Work, I had no greater expectations. But rarely have I been sucked into a universe and fates that have affected me so dramatically. I am looking very much forward to hearing Jairus Mcleary tell me about this masterpiece in documentary," programchef at TV2, Thomas Breinholt.

There will be a screening of The Work after the session.

Reviews:

Putting the viewer into a men’s circle like no other, The Work is a remarkable piece of reportage (Sheri Linden, Hollywood Reporter)

Opening an aperture into a process so ego-stripping that it feels unseemly to witness, The Work is enlightening yet also punishing (Jeanette Catsoulis, The NY Times)

Pushing its cameras past the gates, past the guards, and even past the imaginary emotional barriers its subjects erected years ago in order to deal with their personal demons (Peter Debruge, Variety)
