INSIDE NY TIMES´ COVERAGE OF TRUMP

5. juli 2018

Hear about the documentary series "The Fourth Estate" and New York Times coverage of Trump.

In these times when journalism is being questioned and attacked as "fake news", filmmaker Liz Garbus turns her lens on The New York Times in the documentary series "The Fourth Estate", revealing the challenges, triumphs and pitfalls of covering a president who has declared the majority of the nation's major news outlets "the enemy of the people."

The New York Times' coverage of President Trump is the subject of "The Fourth Estate" in which viewers get a behind-the-scenes look at New York Times journalists investigating and reporting the biggest stories of the administration's first year.

Washington bureau chief Elisabeth Bumiller, who we follow in the documentary series, joins the festival to talk about how you deal with being under constant attack by the president who has often called the New York Times fake news, at the same time granting the paper plenty of interviews. Elisabeth Bumiller gives us a unique insight into that diffucult balance, in a political climate in which all eyes are on the New York Times, both left and right.

"It's hard because you often hear the exact opposite thing from very senior people at the White House in the same hour. You've got to balance out what is true and what is not. It's just a – it's a much bigger reporting challenge," Bumiller said on "CBS This Morning."
